Humans of LinkedIn

Humans of LinkedIn

Humans of LinkedIn was described as highlighting the diversity of talent and skill on LinkedIn, from IT to marketing. The host, John Welch, works as a sales consultant. Launched in January 2020 and with over 40 episodes published, in March 2021 the show was left to perish.

Key lessons from this service:

  1. Be smart with your time. As John mentioned, he knew he wasn’t putting enough time into developing ‘the format, his presentation skills, and production quality.’ Make sure you’re able to commit enough time to developing the content and if you don’t have enough time, don’t be afraid to hire external help and outsource elements of your production. Nothing is for free. Producing valuable content is always going to cost you in either money or time so make sure you’re aware of this and plan accordingly.
  2. Prioritise your audience. One of John’s biggest regrets is that he didn’t evolve the conversations sooner to be more about the guests themselves. The audience preferred it when he made this adjustment but it was too little, too late. Ultimately, the show is for your listeners, and its growth is driven by a deep understanding of their preferences and needs when it comes to content.
  3. Be passionate. This remains John’s biggest piece of advice to new podcasters. Invest a piece of yourself in your conversations because it not only adds depth to your content but also sets it apart from the plethora of AI-generated and checkbox-driven content. Your genuine care is pivotal.
